Acne is the most common skin condition we see, and one of the most undertreated — many patients arrive after years of over-the-counter products and inconsistent results. Our providers begin with an accurate diagnosis (acne looks different in a 15-year-old and a 40-year-old, and hormonal, comedonal and inflammatory acne respond to different treatments) and then build a plan that may include prescription topicals, oral medications, hormonal therapy, or isotretinoin for severe or scarring acne. Medical acne visits are covered by most insurance. Acne Treatment FAQs
When should I see a dermatologist for acne?
If over-the-counter products have not worked after about three months, if you have painful cysts or nodules, if acne is leaving marks or scars, or if it is affecting your confidence. Prescription treatment works, and earlier treatment prevents scarring.
Is isotretinoin safe?
For severe or scarring acne, isotretinoin is the most effective treatment available, and decades of use have defined its safety requirements: regular visits, lab monitoring, and strict pregnancy prevention for patients who can become pregnant. Under that supervision, it is safe for the right patient — and often life-changing.
Can adults get acne?
Absolutely — adult acne is common, particularly hormonal acne in women, and it often needs a different treatment approach than teenage acne. Age is never a reason to live with it.
