While microdermabrasion serves to exfoliate and polish the upper layers of the skin, dermabrasion is a more aggressive cosmetic treatment typically performed by our plastic surgeons that removes layers of the skin down to a determined level. At Elevate Medical Spa in Dallas, TX, dermabrasion treatments remove the top layers of the face to reveal a more healthy and youthful appearance with clearer, more even skin that feels soft and smooth. Our Elevate team, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thornwell Parker, suggests dermabrasion to our patients who are looking for a fast, effective nonsurgical procedure that addresses signs of aging and boosts the health of their skin.
"All the staff was very professional."- Anonymous / Healthgrades / Oct 12, 2017
"Love this place for Botox, dysport and IPL photofacialS. Tori is the best, she listens to what you want and explains everything and I have been very happy with the results of my treatments since my girlfriend referred her to me several months ago. The friends I have sent have also been happy with their results."- K.H. / Yelp / Sep 17, 2018
"Can't say enough about how professional and comfortable this Med Spa is in comparison to some of the other popular locations in town (which I've tried). Elevate feels less like a cattle call and more like a one on one experience. Suzanne is phenomenal for brows and facials- very kind and has your best interests at heart. I've seen Tori as well for photo facials and a few other minor treatments. Both are kind, very informed and the office is efficiently run. Avoid all the other Med spas that advertise like crazy. This place is sophisticated yet comfortable. Employees have a high attention to detail and it is very competitive when it comes to pricing."- T.S. / Yelp / Aug 28, 2018

Dermabrasion treatments are a great choice for women and men of any age who want healthier, clearer skin. Dermabrasion can help correct the appearance of fine lines, small facial scars, spots, and blotches on your face. Since dermabrasion eliminates the outer, damaged skin layers, your skin will feel smoother while also looking brighter and more even. Most patients find that after dermabrasion, their home skin products absorb more quickly and work more effectively. If you have sensitive skin, skin allergies, or chronic cold sores and fever blisters, dermabrasion is not recommended. It is also important to note that dermabrasion shouldn't be performed if you have a current acne or other skin outbreaks to avoid infections. A dermabrasion treatment can be performed on a small area, the whole face, as well as the chest, hands, and neck. Dermabrasion can also be performed along with another procedure offered at Elevate Medical Spa like a chemical peel or injectable wrinkle treatment for more dramatic improvements.
After a consultation, dermabrasion treatments will be performed in one of our procedure rooms. You will be able to relax as your skin is cleansed and prepped before the treatment begins. Topical numbing cream is most often used to numb the skin before the treatment so you will feel more comfortable during the process. Dermabrasion is performed with a tool that applies a spinning, roughly textured surface along the skin to effectively remove the upper layers of skin. After the procedure, the areas treated will be bandaged with antibiotic ointment and a dressing. You can leave immediately after the treatment to continue your regular schedule, but will be wearing a somewhat noticeable dressing.
What to Expect
After a dermabrasion treatment, your skin will be raw, swollen, and possibly bleed or weep a little. Keeping the wound covered with antibiotic ointment and a bandage usually minimizes discomfort as the skin heals over 5 – 14 days. Length of healing is based on the patient’s goals and desired length of recovery. You need to minimize exposure to the sun and frequently apply UV protection since the new layers of skin that are revealed by the treatment will be extra sensitive. Most patients have visibly clearer and smoother skin as soon as the areas treated heal. To maintain your results, talk to our Elevate team about how often you should have dermabrasion or other skin treatments based on your cosmetic goals.
