About Chemical Peels
Offering only the best in chemical peel facial treatments, we provide our patients with different options for a professional chemical solution (such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, Jessner, and trichloroacetic acids) for healthier, smoother skin. Elevate Medical Spa and Cosmetic Surgery in Dallas, TX, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thornwell Parker, helps minimize skin abnormalities, like wrinkles, scars, fine lines, rough patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels dissolve damaged, dead skin cells with a customized peel on your skin, which causes the visible layer to peel off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you may notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a nonsurgical option to make your skin radiant and may be used for both the neck and face.
Variations of Chemical Peels
At our Dallas office, we perform chemical peels in light to medium levels of strength to meet our patients' skin care needs and goals.
- Light peels - You can have a light chemical peel during your lunchtime and return back to your day. This level of peel will remove the top skin layers (upper layers of the epidermis), giving your face a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you receive a light chemical peel about once a month for continued results.
- Medium-depth peels - This level of chemical peel reaches deeper into your skin, and you'll usually prefer to do this strength of facial rejuvenation treatment over a long weekend. You may also need to prepare yourself for more discomfort during and up to an hour after the peel. Medium-depth peels are designed for patients who have significant damage to their skin, including deeper wrinkles and darker pigmentation issues to correct.
Ideal Candidates
Getting the recommendations of a cosmetic professional is the first step in the journey to healthy, smooth skin. Patients with lighter skin make the best candidates for a chemical peel treatment; however, we can assess your skin in an exam in our office. We will also need to ask about your medical background before choosing a chemical peel treatment for the best results. Chemical peel candidates, both women and men, may have noticeable concerns on their skin, including scars, flaky skin, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, and much more. Based on the tone of your skin, we may recommend varying strengths of chemical peels to match your needs and goals.

PROCEDURE TECHNIQUES
During your chemical peel appointment in our office, we will have you lie down in a relaxed position to administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to your face, neck, or both. We will spread the solution onto your face and let it sit for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed in your treatment planning session. Next, we will remove the solution from your face and apply a neutralizing agent to the skin. We then apply a light sunscreen to protect against UV exposure.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Depending on the strength of the peel you receive, you can expect the treated area to itch and peel from a few days to a week. We will discuss ways to care for your skin during your procedure. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the recovery, it is never healthy to peel the skin off. You could cause scarring to your skin.
