About Dermaplaning
Our medical aestheticians at Elevate Medical Spa in Dallas, TX perform a unique facial exfoliation treatment known as dermaplaning, also referred to as dermablading. This is performed by itself or can be incorporated into any of our customized facial treatments. This nonsurgical method uses a gentle medical blade to delicately scrape and "shave" the surface of your skin, and it is a wonderful alternative to more invasive treatments. The purpose of this treatment is to remove dead skin cells, the fine hairs on the face (known as vellus), and gently exfoliate the skin for a smooth, silky feeling. While some of our patients request this treatment on a routine basis, it is most often combined with one of our custom facials. Applying the two together leaves our Dallas patients with a radiant complexion and softer glow.

Best Candidates
Dermablading works great on most patients, especially those with a healthy skin complexion. Therefore, we recommend that your skin be clear of active acne, rashes, fever blisters, cold sores, or any other facial infection as a dermaplane treatment could worsen the condition. While patients with a darker skin complexion may enjoy this treatment, it is recommended more for patients with a lighter skin complexion as it may cause slight discoloration to the skin. Prior to the treatment, we will also want to know what facial treatments you have had recently, such as a chemical peel or an IPL. We do not want to irritate or damage your skin unnecessarily with an adverse reaction. All of this will be discussed in detail during your skin consultation.
What to Expect
For your treatment, we will take you to one of our comfortable and relaxing procedure rooms. Most dermaplaning treatments take less than 30 minutes to perform. No facial numbing is required since this is a gentle exfoliation and scraping of the skin. Our medical aesthetician will cleanse your face and gently glide the blade over the outer layer of your entire facial skin (excluding your eyebrows). This process removes the fine layer of facial hair, dead skin cells, and other surface debris. We will end the session with a moisturizer unless you are scheduled to have a custom facial. The facial treatment takes place after the dermablading is complete. Each facial treatment is customized for our patients and is used to target your specific skin health needs. After your appointment, your skin will feel smoother and look softer and healthier.
