Even a small amount of excess fat in the upper neck area may cause the appearance of a "double chin" that is bothersome to both men and women. The extra pockets of fat beneath the chin (also known as the submental area) may be caused by genetics, aging, or weight fluctuations that lead to a weaker chin and jawbone for an undefined profile. Led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thornwell Parker, our team is pleased to offer a new method to eliminate neck fat at Elevate Medical Spa and Cosmetic Surgery in Dallas, TX. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kybella is an innovative nonsurgical procedure for submental fat. The active ingredient in Kybella is a manmade version of deoxycholic acid that works like the natural DA in the body to dissolve and absorb fat. Once it's injected below the chin, you may see a noticeable reduction in the volume of fat. Once the fat is eliminated, it should not reform so you can enjoy your new slimmer profile and clear jawline.
The best patients for Kybella treatments have additional fat in the upper neck (submental area) that is causing unwanted fullness or a double chin. Kybella addresses stubborn sections of fat that cannot be minimized with usual weight loss methods because it is created by genetics, aging, or other conditions. If you are at or near a healthy weight, but diet and exercise have not worked to remove the fat in your neck, Kybella may be the right procedure for your needs. While Kybella may correct small to moderate amounts of fat in the submental area, larger amounts of fat may require surgical liposuction.

"I got my first hydrofacial. Amazing!!!!! Life is too short to not be good to myself so I intend on making this a regular occurrence! My friend got one too and holy moly, the before and after pictures speak for themselves. Skin care to this degree was new for him but Felicia took her time to make sure he was comfortable throughout the entire process. Already looking forward to my April hydrofacial!"- R.B. / Yelp / Feb 15, 2019
"I was diagnosed with a Basal Cell Carcinoma on my shoulder and found Dr. Parker via his website. He was very thorough in answering all my concerns and questions, making me feel comfortable about the Mohs procedure. The results were better then I could have ever expected. The scar isn't even noticeable and people would never guess I ever had the Mohs procedure done!! Between Dr. Parker, the nurses and the delightful front staff, I felt very welcomed and treated just life family!"- A. / Wellness / Oct 25, 2018
"Dr. Parker is such an amazing doctor and does wonderful work. I had surgery in 2017 on my nose and you can't even see where he did the surgery. I would recommend anybody in the Dallas area to go see him for Mohs surgery."- A.W. / Wellness / Oct 24, 2018
Kybella injections are completed during an in-office appointment. We often apply a numbing cream to the treated area, if preferred, after the skin is cleansed. The procedure takes about 15 – 20 minutes, which includes multiple small injections targeting the submental area. Some patients may need one treatment to achieve their desired goal while other patients may require several treatments spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart.
What to Expect
Since Kybella does not require general anesthesia, patients can leave the office as soon as they feel comfortable to resume their usual routine. Patients may experience temporary bruising, swelling, or numbness beneath the chin. Call Elevate Medical Spa immediately if you are feeling any unusual side effects. While the fat cells eliminated by Kybella do not regenerate, the cells that remain can get larger so patients must maintain a steady weight after their Kybella injections to prevent existing fat from growing. This principle holds true for almost any type of fat treatment, including liposuction or CoolSculpting. The results following this treatment leave your neck looking slimmer, tighter, and sleeker and your profile will be more defined.
