About Breast Lift Surgery
A surgical breast lift is a cosmetic treatment that lifts and tightens the breasts by repositioning sagging breast tissue, reducing excess skin, and pulling tight the healthy skin to produce a firmer, younger appearance. This cosmetic breast surgery is offered for women who have lost breast fullness and shape or who have breast sagging due to aging and gravity, as well as weight loss or pregnancy and breastfeeding. Medical breakthroughs in breast lift surgery have made this aesthetic surgery so effective that new stats released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show around 70% increase in demand for this procedure since 2000. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thornwell Parker offers this cosmetic breast surgery at Elevate Medical Spa and Cosmetic Surgery in Dallas, TX. He uses safe and proven methods, delicately choosing the proper technique, depending on the breast size and level of sag present in addition to the desired aesthetic goal. Sometimes breast lifts are also combined with breast augmentation to achieve the best result.
Ideal Candidates
Many women visit our center hoping to get implants only; however, after a physical exam, it may be realized that a mastopexy (breast lift) is needed and will provide a better outcome. This is because of the significance of breast sagging that is present. Women whose breasts and nipples point down, or the majority of the breast tissue hangs below the level of the breast fold, typically need a breast lift to correct the skin irregularity and raise the breasts higher up on the chest wall. If your nipples point downward and your breasts look elongated, a mastopexy (breast lift) can improve their appearance. Women considering a breast lift need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight. While implants may be wanted, a breast lift could be all that is needed to add the fullness and shape that is desired.

Procedure Techniques
Breast lift surgery takes about 2 – 4 hours and is performed using IV sedation and at times, even possible with only local anesthesia and some oral medication. The timing of this surgery depends on the severity of breast sag present. The method used for mastopexy surgery generally falls within two categories — this is based on the size, location, and nature of the incision. The anchor technique (also known as the inverted-T or Wise pattern) or the vertical technique incisions are the preferred incision types for most moderate to large breast lifts. Smaller lifts are achievable with an incision placed around the edge of the areola (also known as circumareolar). Once the incision is made, any loose, unhealthy skin is carefully trimmed away along with breast tissue and fat that is not desired. After this process, the breast tissue is elevated and the skin left behind is pulled tight to support the breasts as they are brought up and lifted to look younger and healthy. In many cases, the size and shape of the areola are reduced to match the new shape of the breast. It is during this time an implant can be inserted inside the breast if this was agreed upon before surgery. If a breast lift is the only technique being performed and if breast fullness and shape are a concern, breast implants can also be done at a later date.
What To Expect
The overall recovery period for mastopexy is more lengthy than breast augmentation. After surgery, patients are fitted with a support bra to diminish swelling. On occasion, a tiny draining tube will be placed near the surgical area to assist with excess drainage that can sometimes occur after mastopexy treatment. The post-surgical swelling will decrease within about a week. Our nurses provide specific, at-home incision care instructions to assist the healing process. Results following a breast lift treatment are noticeable right after surgery, but the breasts will settle down over the next few months as they take their new position on the chest. The breasts will appear natural, and you will feel perkier and healthy overall. Unfortunately, our bodies continue to age and the breasts are no exception.
