This injectable procedure provides wonderful aesthetic results and is very common among both men and women. BOTOX can make a significant enhancement to dynamic and static lines, which are made from expressive movement from the muscles contracting on the forehead and around the eyes. The dynamic lines disappear as the face relaxes, but static folds can still exist. BOTOX is a clean and purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the facial muscle. To soften these dynamic wrinkles, BOTOX is injected, which smoothes the skin. BOTOX injections are most commonly positioned between the eyebrows, the Crow's feet, and across the forehead.

BOTOX is great for individuals who desire to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their face without surgery. BOTOX can also be used as a preventive treatment, even if you do not show signs of aging — keep in mind how often you tend to make facial expressions. It's a terrific nonsurgical treatment if you are frustrated by forehead lines or parallel lines between the brows. It is also a solution for the area of lines around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a filler product may be more suitable. If you are over the age of 50 with sagging skin and widespread wrinkles, BOTOX may help, but you may also give consideration to a facelift or laser resurfacing. BOTOX treatments are performed as an outpatient procedure conveniently in our Elevate office. If it is your first time to visit us for BOTOX, we commonly perform the injection at the same appointment as your consultation. You will be asked to make a few facial expressions with the upper face, like squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to determine where the injections are best placed. The treatment area will be cleansed and BOTOX will be applied with a fine needle, followed by gentle compressions placed to help reduce bruising, swelling, and discomfort. Patients may ask for an ice pack or numbing cream to make their treatment feel more comfortable, but this generally is unnecessary. BOTOX treatments typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, then patients are able to resume their normal routine with no required recovery period. Avoidance of strenuous activity for one day is recommended to minimize bruising.

After the procedure, patients can get back to their usual routine, but strenuous activity should be skipped for at least one day. Patients are also asked to sleep with their head elevated for the first night and to not touch their face, which may accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. Most patients look normal following treatment, but occasionally, treated areas of the face may be slightly red, bruised, or swollen. For most patients, it often takes at least 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. Our patients who get BOTOX for their first time are so happy after their first treatment and excited after seeing their results that we almost always continue to see them every few months for their touch-up. Touch-up treatments often require less product than the initial treatment. We enjoy having our patients return each time as we become a partner in helping them look and feel rejuvenated and smooth!
